Palm oil prices in international markets are cheaper than other vegetable oils (Figure). With more competitive prices, the palm oil gives more benefits to the world community especially in low-income countries.

First, with the relatively cheap price and availability of its supply in the world market, palm oil can prevent excessive increases in prices of other vegetable oils such as soybean oil, rapeseed oil and sunflower oil.

Second, the low palm oil prices help people in low-income countries such as in Africa and Central Asia and third, with the low prices, people in low-income countries are still able to consume much vegetable oil.

Harga minyak sawit di pasar internasional konsisten lebih murah dibandingkan dengan minyak nabati lain (Gambar). Harga minyak sawit yang lebih kompetitif tersebut memberi manfaat bagi masyarakat dunia khususnya masyarakat negara-negara berpendapatan rendah. Pertama, harga minyak sawit yang relatif murah dan tersedia secara internasional dapat mencegah kenaikan berlebihan harga minyak nabati lain seperti minyak kedelai, minyak rapeseed dan minyak bunga matahari.

Kedua, menyediakan minyak sawit dengan harga lebih murah bagi negara-negara berpendapatan rendah seperti kawasan Afrika dan Asia Tengah dan ketiga, dengan tingkat pendapatan yang sama rakyat di negara-negara berpendapatan rendah dapat mengkonsumsi minyak nabati dalam jumlah yang lebih banyak.
