The development of oil palm plantations, including community oil palm plantations, which are generally located on degraded land or in remote and remote areas, has a direct impact on the progress and economic growth of regional communities. The palm oil industry, including plantations and downstream industries, has also succeeded in becoming the locomotive of the national economy. As the world’s largest producer of palm oil, the Indonesian palm oil industry is an important part of the global vegetable oil supply chain that contributes to economic growth in palm oil-importing countries. This shows that the palm oil industry is a vehicle for sharing prosperity and “economic cake” that can be enjoyed by the community at the regional, national, and global levels or generate multilevel economic benefits. These multilevel economic benefits will be sustainable if the palm oil industry is sustainable economically. The magnitude of these benefits has the potential to continue to be increased through improving the economic sustainability of the palm oil industry. First, increasing productivity through replanting or improving technical culture in existing plantations is a strategic issue to achieve the economic sustainability of the palm oil industry. Second, production cost efficiency through managerial improvement and production technology. And third, deepening downstream to produce downstream products (finished products) that have higher added value.
